The King Thriving for His Throne by Niko Hennis

LeBron Raymone James has had a brilliant career thus far. Some have already considered him a candidate for the NBA Hall of Fame playing in his 10th year. He definitely has a qualified resume for it. The 3X NBA MVP, 8X NBA All-Star, and 2003 NBA Rookie of the Year has achieved what most haven’t in this short time. There is only ONE counter-argument. He has never won the ultimate accolade the National Basketball Association has to offer- the coveted NBA title. Some say that is the difference in him being in the hall. Is it justified or not? Time will only tell.

James has had multiple opportunities to achieve a title. During his time with the Cleavland Cavaliers, he led his team to consecutive playoff appearances from 2006-2010. In 2007, LeBron and the Cavs went to the NBA Finals for the first time in their franchise history, but lost to the San Antonio Spurs. Last year, James had another shot at gold, leading his new squad, the Miami Heat on a championship run. Things were going good for them. They were the favorites. The self-proclaimed “Dream Team” went to the finals once again, James eyeing what he has not had thus far in his career. His opponent, the Dallas Mavericks, had other plans as they quickly turned the “Dream Team” to a horrific nightmare, beating them to win the championship.

Proceeding that lost, questions raised and doubts to King James came in. Widely considered NBA’s “choke artist.” Fans doubt his ability to come through in the 4th quarter and clutch situations. Time and time again, LeBron has shown signs of weakness heading into the 4th. The absolute best player throughout the season, playoff time comes around and he loses something going into the 4th quarter of games. It is really hard to consider a player “hall bound” with that inconsistency. This is what stands in the way from LeBron James and a NBA title.

I will be the first person to tell you that LeBron James is completely capable of being a clutch player in the 4th. I am also a huge LeBron James fan, though. He is one of the best to ever step on a court. Mental psyche is what LeBron needs to overcome to silence the critics. If he does this, he will take his game to the next level and be in contention to be the best basketball player of all time. He knows this. The fans know it. I know it.

The Miami Heat and LeBron James currently look to close out the series against a red-hot, experienced, Boston Celtics squad in the Eastern Conference Finals this week. If achieved, the NBA finals will await King James for the 3rd time of his career. James knows these opportunities are hard to come by, so he and the Heat must capitalize.

LeBron James is too good of a professional basketball player to go unnoticed as one of the best to play. I fear that if he doesn’t get his titles, this will happen. He will be
